Dual classic winner AFLEET ALEX (Northern Afleet) will enter stud at
Gainesway Farm near Lexington, Kentucky, it was announced Sunday. The bay sophomore will stand for a
$40,000 live foal fee.

“After meeting with Gainesway they quickly became our number one choice,”
said Chuck Zacney, managing partner of owner Cash is King Racing Stable. “They
have a great reputation, a passion for the game and really believe in Afleet
Alex.”

Afleet Alex was retired in early December after suffering an injury that may
be related to the condylar fracture in his left front cannon bone that sidelined
him in late July. During his two-year career, he gained national fame for his
stunning victory in the Preakness S. (G1), where he clipped heels and almost
fell before recovering to go on and take the race by 4 3/4 lengths. He followed
that up with an easy seven-length win in the Belmont S. (G1) and just missed
sweeping the Triple Crown when a close third in the first leg, the Kentucky
Derby (G1), in May.

“Having Afleet Alex stand at Gainesway is one of the most exciting moments in
our 18 years of owning Gainesway,” said Antony Beck, president of Gainesway.
“There’s already a huge buzz at the farm.”
