Leatherman Racing and Ran Jan Racing’s CAMBIOCORSA (Avenue of Flags) scored
her sixth victory in a row over Santa Anita’s downhill turf
course on Sunday as the four-year-old gray filly held on to win the $112,900
Las Cienegas
H. (G3)
. The Doug O’Neill trainee was just a head behind Starkay (NZ) (Towkay), who clocked the first quarter-mile in :21
2/5, but it was not long before Cambiocorsa took the lead, getting a
half-mile in :43. Jockey Jon Court guided her to the rail for the stretch run,
and after opening up by four lengths through six furlongs in 1:06, she just held
off
the late-running Lock and Key (Ire) (Key of Luck) by three-parts of a length to
complete the 6 1/2-furlong affair in 1:12 3/5.

“Today, she jumped out there with Starkay, and she just kind of relaxed there
and set her own pace,” Court said. “When we crossed the dirt, I called on her and
she gave me a quick three or four lengths. I’m just lucky I’m the rider who’s
had the opportunity to sit across her back.”

Sent off at 3-2, Cambiocorsa returned $5.20, $3.20 and $2.40, leading exotics
of $6.50 (exacta), $17.20 (trifecta) and $224 for the 12-10-9-1 superfecta.
Lock and Key paid $3.20 and $2.40 at almost 2-1, while Sandra’s
Rose (Old Trieste) gave back $2.80 at 5-1 for the bronze position. Danclare
(Stravinsky), Freakin Streakin (Tactical Advantage), Starkay, Awesome Lady (Bianconi),
Mystic Chant (Unbridled’s Song) and Da Svedonya (Lil Tyler) completed the order
of finish. Fiorino of Sydney (NZ) (Magic of Sydney [Aus]), Maryfield (Elusive
Quality) and Pussycat Doll (Real Quiet) were scratched.

Bred in California by John and Diane Fradkin, Cambiocorsa is out of the
Afleet mare Ultrafleet, who has also produced Grade 3-placed Shadow Raider (Memo
[Chi]). Her most recent foals are California Flag, an unraced two-year-old full
brother to the winner, and a 2006 colt by Unusual Heat.

Cambiocorsa, who sold at the 2004 Barretts May Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training
for $90,000, now claims a record of 12-7-0-2 with $360,695 in earnings.
Her career mark on the downhill turf at Santa Anita is a perfect
seven-for-seven. Previously this year, she annexed the Irish O’Brien S. and
Wishing Well H. as part of her current winning skein.
