Three horses topped the A$200,000 mark at the Inglis Breeze-Up and Racehorse
Sale Sunday, including Hip No. 109, a colt by Encosta de Lago, who realized a
final bid of A$300,000. Out of Lake Alexandrina (Bluebird), the two-year-old,
who was offered by Lakeview Stud, was purchased by William Inglis, agent, on
behalf of an unspecified client. Closely related to Group 1 winner Marauding
(*Sir Tristram), the colt will be sent to trainer John O’Shea.

Leading the ladies was Hip 113, a Zabeel filly who brought A$240,000 from Bob
Scarborough’s Wood Nook Farm. The filly is out of Mer Du Sud (Bluebird), dam of
Hong Kong Mile (HK-G1) winner The Duke (Danehill). The three-year-old filly was
consigned by William Inglis, agent.

Hip 79, a juvenile by Rock of Gibraltar (Ire), was knocked down to Mike
Moroney for A$200,000, after selling at Easter earlier this year for $160,000.
Offered by Eliza Park, the gelding is out of 10-year-old Drawbridge (Rainbow
Quest), a three-quarter sister to Sought Out, dam of Epsom Derby (Eng-G1) winner
North Light (Ire), and a half-sister to multiple Hong Kong champion Oriental
Express and multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Fastness (Ire).

In the Breeze-Up section (Lots 1 through 144), a total of 52 head sold for
gross expenditures of A$1,408,500. The buyback rate was 34.7 percent, while the
average closed out at A$27,087. In the Spring Carnival portion of the sale (Lots
145-239), 72 head sold for a total of A$345,350.

“These sales always produce bargain buys and trainers that attended here
would be happy with their purchases,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster
said.

“The well credentialed horses we offered at the top end of the market sold
well, but as expected the change in the current economic climate affected the
middle and lower end of the market.

“There are some outstanding racing prospects still available and vendors are
more than happy to negotiate on horses that didn’t sell in the ring,” Webster
added. “We have had quite a lot of post sale interest already via the make an
offer service.”
