First Dude colts tops first OBS June session

A son of First Dude sold for $400,000 to David Dizney Racing Syndicate on Tuesday, topping the first day of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2017 June Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale. Hip No. 199 was consigned by Top Line Sales, agent.

The February 9 Florida-bred was reared by Natalie’s Moment, a daughter of Kris S. who is also the dam of the stakes-placed Sola Gratia and the second dam of Grade 2-placed stakes winner Code Warrior. This is the family of 1992 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Lil E. Tee.

The colt worked a quarter-mile in :20 3/5, co-fastest at the distance at last week’s under tack show.

With the sale condensed from four days in 2016 to two days this year, business increased across the board on Tuesday, with 199 horses selling for $7,217,500. At last year’s first session, 147 juveniles sold for $3,645,300. The average is up 46.3 percent, from $24,798 to $36,269, while the median rose 33.3 percent, from $13,500 to $18,000.

The juvenile sale concludes Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. (EDT), with a horses of racing age session immediately following. Full results can be found at obssales.com.
