Four-time champion, three-time Breeders’ Cup winner and $6 million earner Beholder has had her first foal, Spendthrift Farm announced on Wednesday. The farm reported the mare gave birth to a “beautiful strong bay colt by Uncle Mo.”

The Henny Hughes mare retired following a nose score over Songbird in the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1). It was Beholder’s third Breeders’ Cup win, as she also captured the 2013 edition of the Distaff as well as the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).

The bay mare also dominated the boys in the 2015 Pacific Classic (G1), romping by 8 1/4 lengths, and finished second to California Chrome in the next year’s edition.

Bred by Clarkland Farm, Beholder sold for $180,000 as a 2011 Keeneland September yearling to B. Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm, who campaigned her throughout her five seasons of racing.

Trained by Hall of Famer Richard Mandella, she was ridden by three Hall of Fame riders during her career – Garrett Gomez for her first nine starts, Gary Stevens in 16 of her final 17 starts, and Mike Smith taking the reins one time.

Beholder retired to the breeding shed with a 26-18-6-0 record and $6,156,600 in lifetime earnings.
