Flurry of track cancellations due to winter storm

The impending winter storm and severe cold are playing havoc with racing schedules for a number of tracks ranging from Aqueduct to Turfway.

Aqueduct has called off live racing Thursday through Sunday. And training at both Aqueduct and Belmont Park is halted through Saturday. While Aqueduct will remain open for simulcasting through Sunday, Belmont Café will be closed through Thursday, January 11, — the same day that Aqueduct plans to resume live racing.

Penn National has scrapped the Thursday through Saturday cards, with live racing now set for Wednesday, January 10.

Laurel Park has canceled live racing Friday and Saturday but remains open for simulcasting. Also, Laurel will carry Saturday’s full card from Maronas in Latin America. Live racing is scheduled to return to Laurel Sunday with mandatory payouts of the Rainbow 6 (with a carryover of $3,998) and Super Hi 5 ($2,341 carryover). Friday’s card is being transferred, as drawn, to Monday.

Turfway Park’s Friday card is canceled, but the track will offer simulcasting as well as the 9 p.m. (EST) concert by Naked Karate Girls and the usual Dollar Friday deals. Saturday’s live racing is still on (as of Thursday afternoon).

Subsequently added to the list are Parx and Mahoning Valley, both canceled for Saturday.
