Audible Changes DeRosa’s Kentucky Derby Top Ten

Of this past weekend’s three Kentucky Derby points races, the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park by far figures to have the biggest impact on the Kentucky Derby, and it certainly had the biggest affect on my top ten list as winner Audible leaped to number 4 on my top ten list with runner-up Free Drop Billy debuting at number 10 while beaten favorite Enticed dropped off it following a bad fourth-place finish.

Audible earned a 105 Brisnet Speed Rating and a 122.2 Class Rating, making him one of only three three-year-olds to earn BOTH those figures. The other two are champion Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Good Magic (105, 123.9) and Front Runner Stakes winner Bolt d’Oro (105, 122.9).

As you can see, no horses from either the Withers or the Lewis made the top ten list. Avery Island received a 94 Speed, 120.4 Class for winning the Withers while Lombo registered just a 88 Speed, 117.5 Class when winning the Lewis. That’s not to say improvement can’t come, but from a Kentucky Derby Future Wager standpoint I’ll definitely fade the Withers horses.

On the Oaks front, Dream Tree continued her domination on the track (where it matters most), but her lack of dominating ratings (only a 91 Speed, 119.4 Class for the Las Virgenes) has me bearish on her Kentucky Oaks chances relative to how other people think. Take Charge Paula was electrifying in her win on Saturday at Gulfstream, as her sire Take Charge Indy continues to build resume for repatriation.

This week holds a lot of excitement for the Kentucky Derby with two 17-point races on Saturday–the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs and the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields–plus the aforementioned Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool 2.
