C. S. Incharge takes charge in Suncoast

Winless at two, C. S. Incharge has won back-to-back starts for Dale Romans (SV Photography)

After a slow start to her career, C. S. Incharge has taken charge winning two in a row. Her latest score came in Saturday’s $100,000 Suncoast at Tampa Bay Downs, which earned the three-year-old filly 10 qualifying points for the Kentucky Oaks (G1).

A homebred racing for William Pacella, Frank Jones Jr., and Frank Shoop, C. S. Incharge rated in second behind longshot So Refined through splits of :23.72, :47.29, and 1:12.05, finally got past that rival with a sixteenth to go and fended off a late bid from 11-10 favorite Daisy to win by three parts of a length. The final time was 1:41.40 for one mile and 40 yards over a fast track.

Trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Joel Rosario, C. S. Incharge paid $17.60. Daisy, who appeared to be struggling on the far turn and in upper stretch after a wide trip, found her best stride late but was second best. She finished 1 1/4 lengths clear of 9-1 chance Mihrab, with So Refined fourth. Those fillies earned Oaks qualifying points of four, two, and one, respectively.

Prior to a maiden breaking score in wire-to-wire fashion on January 3 at Gulfstream in an off-the-turf heat at 1 1/16 miles, C. S. Incharge ran four times as a juvenile. A distant third in her two tries on the main track, she went unplaced in two other starts on turf. This victory boosted her career earnings to $96,940.

Bred in Kentucky, the daughter of Take Charge Indy and C. S. Royce, by Unbridled’s Song, is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Sweeping Paddy and Preakness (G1) runner-up Cherry Wine. This is also the family of Canadian champion Exciting Story.
