Mutuel Field favored in Pool 2 of 2018 Kentucky Derby Future Wager

The Mutuel Field (#24), or “All Other Three-Year-Olds,” betting interest was bet down to 5-2 favoritism when Pool 2 of the 2018 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) ended Sunday evening.

In Pool 1 of the KDFW, Bolt d’Oro (#3) was the only other betting interest that closed at single-digit odds. In Pool 2 the dual Grade 1 winner was joined by champion and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) hero Good Magic (#10) in closing at 8-1.

The only other individual interests that closed at single-digit odds were McKinzie (#13), hero of the Sham Stakes (G3) on January 6, and Audible (#1), who captured the Holy Bull Stakes (G2) on February 3 by 5 1/2 lengths. The pair opened at 8-1 and 12-1, respectively, and were bet down to 9-1 odds.

Total handle for Pool 2 of the 2018 KDFW – the second of four scheduled wagering pools in advance of the 144th running of the $2 million Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 5, 2018 – was $521,650, with $363,389 bet in the Win pool and $158,262 in the Exacta pool. The total is a 58.1 percent increase over the $330,043 total wagered for Pool 2 of the 2017 KDFW, which saw $227,881 in the Win pool and $102,162 in the Exacta pool.

The Kentucky Derby Future Wager continues with Pool 3 on March 9-11. During that same time, the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (KOFW) and new Kentucky Oaks/Derby Double Future Wager will take place.
