Utilizing another well-timed move on the Belmont turf, Disco Partner rallied to win the Jaipur Invitational (G3) for the second consecutive year on Saturday. Irad Ortiz Jr. had the mount on the 6-year-old horse for Christophe Clement.

A three-time stakes winner at Belmont last year, Disco Partner was making his first local appearance this season after opening 2018 with a third in the Shakertown (G3) at Keeneland. The gray concluded last year with a rallying half-length third in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) at Del Mar.

Disco Partner completed the 6-furlong distance in a snappy 1:06.74 over the firm turf. He established a new world record winning last year’s Jaipur, stopping teletimer in 1:05.67.

Now a six-time stakes victor for owner/breeder Patricia Generazio, Disco Partner pushed his earnings past the $1 million mark with the $220,000 payday. He’s bankrolled $1,153,810 from a 23-10-4-4 record.

Off as the 3-2 favorite among eight runners, Disco Partner rated a few lengths off the pace in fifth as stablemate Pure Sensation showed the way through splits of :22.16 and :44.03. He offered his bid leaving the far turn and wore down the leaders in deep stretch to win comfortably in the end.

Conquest Tsunami chased Pure Sensation from the start and edged the pacesetter by a head on the wire, finishing second at 6-1. Pure Sensation came next at 13-1, a head better than 5-1 co-second choice Holding Gold in fourth.

A New York-bred son of Disco Rico, Disco Partner hails from the winning Numerous mare Lulu’s Number.
