How to bet the Pick 5 carryover on August 20 at Hastings

There is a special 7-race card on Monday, August 20, at Hastings Racecourse and with it a $2,046 carryover in the Pick 5 on races 2-6. The Pick 3s and 4s at Hastings are 20-cent minimum wagers, but the Pick 5 is a $1 minimum. For Hastings handicapping reports from Brisnet.com, CLICK HERE.

We’ll lean heaviest on #5 Under Par in race 3 (leg 2). He’s won 2 of 4 races this year at Hastings and does not appear to have much of a challenge on the front end at a level he handled easily last out.

The most challenging race of the sequence is the opener, a $12,500 maiden claiming affair for a six pack of two-year-old fillies with five first-time starters. The only horse to run is #5 Archon, and that’s about the only thing to like about her even with the 2nd drop in class from open maidens to $25,000 maidens to this level. The reality is she just hasn’t shown any zip, and we’ll play one of the debut runners to get the better of her. Top options include one of three from trainer Mark Cloutier or Archon’s stablemate #8 Saturna.

Race 2, $1 Pick 5 part wheel: 2, 6, 7, 8 with 5 with 2, 3, 6 with 1, 4 with 1, 2, 3, 8 ($96). The ABC/TP grid covers all seven races for those who might want to play the Pick 4s that begin in races 1 and 4 or any of the rolling Pick 3s. Again, those are a 20-cent minimum while the Pick 5 starts at a buck.

GOOD LUCK!
