The once-beaten Monomoy Girl will look to earn a fifth Grade 1 laurel this season in Saturday’s $1 million Cotillion at Parx. The 1 1/16-mile race for three-year-old fillies will serve as Monomoy Girl’s stepping stone to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Churchill Downs on November 3.

Monomoy Girl is a perfect five-for-five this year and has virtually sewed up championship honors in her division via wins in the Ashland (G1), Kentucky Oaks (G1), Acorn (G1), and Coaching Club American Oaks (G1). The latter victory, by three lengths, came at the expense of Midnight Bisou and Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) winner Chocolate Martini.

Winner of the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) and Mother Goose (G2) stylishly, Midnight Bisou has not made a dent against Monomoy Girl in two meetings this year. She was most recently third in the Alabama (G1) as the favorite.

Wonder Gadot has also lost twice to Monomoy Girl this season, but came closest to beating her when only a half-length back in the Kentucky Oaks. The Mark Casse trainee subsequently beat the boys in the first two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown — the Queen’s Plate and the Prince of Wales — but trailed home last of 10 in the Travers (G1) last month.

The only other notable is Separationofpowers, winner of the Frizette (G1) last season and triumphant by a neck in the Test (G1) in early August.
