American Pharoah’s first crop turns two: the names so far

When the clock strikes midnight to signal the New Year, the first crop sired by 2015 Triple Crown champion American Pharoah will turn two years old – and draw closer to beginning their racing careers.

As of December 30, Brisnet records show 34 (only about 20 percent) of his first-crop progeny have been named so far. Here’s the list in alphabetical order, with foaling date, brief pedigree notes, sales history if applicable, and any public update that was readily accessible.

ALL AMERICAN GAL: Bay filly (March 2), half-sister to 2012 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1) champion I’ll Have Another, out of Arch’s Gal Edith by Arch. Led out unsold for $240,000 after her reserve price was not attained (RNA) at Keeneland September.

AMANI’S EAGLE [originally named Firey Torpedo]: Bay colt (February 7) out of two-time Chilean champion Amani by Morning Raider. Dam also made three starts in the United States, her best result being a third in the 2012 Clement L. Hirsch (G1).

AMERICAN CITIZEN: Bay colt (March 4), half-brother to 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) hero and $5.6 million-earner Mucho Macho Man, out of stakes-winning Ponche de Leona by Ponche. Sold for $80,000 at Keeneland September to Kildare Stud Farm.

AMERICAN DREAM: Bay filly (January 28) out of Dancing Alone by Kingmambo. Dam is an unraced full sister to multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Voodoo Dancer, and already responsible for Grade 3 scorer Dancing Solo and Grade 1-placed Dancing.

AMERICAN PHENOM [originally named Pharelli]: Bay colt (March 6) out of Grade 2 victress Schiaparelli by Ghostzapper. Dam is a half-sister to four stakes performers, including Grade 2 scorer Moulin de Mougin and Grade 1-placed Vionnet, now best known for producing four-time Group 1 star Roaring Lion. Second dam Cambiocorsa is herself a multiple Grade 3-winning full sister to California Flag, hero of the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Sold for $340,000 at Keeneland September to Let’s Go Stable, which sends youngsters to Todd Pletcher after they finish basic education at his father J.J.’s training facility in Ocala.

AMERICAN THEOREM [originally named Comeback]: Gray colt (February 16), half-brother to Grade 3 victress Mighty Caroline along with stakes winners Cyclogenisis and Renee’s Queen, out of Mighty Renee by Maria’s Mon. RNA for $190,000 at Keeneland September.

AMERIEL: Bay filly (March 5) out of stakes-winning Mariel N Kathy by Corinthian. Sold for $300,000 to Green Lantern Stables, Patrick Masson as agent.

BASQUIAT: Bay colt (March 26) out of stakes-placed Divalarious by Distorted Humor. Dam is a half-sister to 1997 1000 Guineas (G1) vixen and noted producer Sleepytime; four-time Group 1 star Taipan, a multiple Italian and German highweight; English Group 1-winning highweight Ali-Royal; and multiple Grade 2 scorer Oonagh MacCool.

BEST COMPANY: Bay colt (April 23), half-brother to 2018 Florida Derby (G1) and Belmont (G1) placegetter Hofburg as well as multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Emollient, and three-quarter brother to Grade 2-placed stakes victor Courtier, all Juddmonte homebreds. Out of Soothing Touch by Touch Gold, descended from the prolific Coup de Folie and Natalma, the dam of Northern Dancer. PISTA (see below) hails from the same line.

CEBOLLA: Dark bay colt (February 9), half-brother to trainer (and co-breeder) Bob Baffert’s Californian (G2) winner Dr. Dorr, out of the multiple stakes-placed Jax El by Unusual Heat. Dam is a full sister to Grade 2 heroine Pretty Unusual.

CLEPAT: Bay filly (April 18) out of Intelyhente by Smart Strike. Dam is a full sister to Grade 2 winner Bel Air Beauty (dam of Canadian champion Stacked Deck) and herself responsible for stakes-placed Count Alexander. Sold for $310,000 at Keeneland September to J.S. Company and exported to Japan.

DON’T TASE ME BRO: Bay colt (April 22) out of Profess by War Front. Dam is a half-sister to noted sire Pulpit, from the further family of such notables as transatlantic champion Johannesburg, Tale of the Cat, and Fed Biz. Sold for $160,000 at Keeneland September to Steven W. Young, agent.

DRAPES: Bay filly (January 11), half-sister to former Chilean Horse of the Year Il Campione, out of Global Gold by Pleasant Tap. Descendant of Broodmare of the Year Glowing Tribute, whose offspring include 1993 Kentucky Derby and Travers (G1) star Sea Hero. In early training as reported by Glen Hill Farm’s Craig Bernick via Twitter.

EGYPTIAN PRINCESS: Bay filly (February 13) out of Grade 3 winner Full Ransom by Full Mandate. Family of Grade 1 victor Boys at Tosconova.

ENVIED: Bay filly (March 29) out of Group 3-placed Halljoy by Halling. Dam is a full sister to Group 3 scorer An Tadh, from the extended family of multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Divisidero. RNA for $335,000 at Keeneland September. Retained by breeder HnR Nothhaft Horse Racing, which reports via Facebook that she’s learning the ropes at William Harrigan’s Miacomet Farm before eventually basing herself at Keeneland.

FEELING FUNNY: Chestnut filly (May 14) out of stakes winner Funny Feeling by Distorted Humor. Dam is a full sister to Grade 1 hero Jimmy Creed and a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 star Pussycat Doll, and is herself responsible for Grade 3-placed Gato Del Oro. Sold for $875,000 at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga to John C. Oxley and bound for trainer Mark Casse.

FIRST PHAROAH: Bay colt (January 3) out of Kakadu by Tizway. Dam is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Protonico (and fellow Sumaya U.S. homebred ORONTES, see below), descended from Chilean Co-Horse of the Year and U.S. Grade 1 victress Wild Spirit.

GRANDEXALTEDRULER: Bay colt (April 20), half-brother to 2018 Lecomte (G3) hero, multiple Grade 1-placed, and Kentucky Derby fourth Instilled Regard, out of Enhancing by Forestry. Dam is a three-quarter sister to multiple Grade 1 victor Good Reward and Grade 2 scorer Pure Prize, all offspring of Hall of Famer Heavenly Prize. Sold for $100,000 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October to Sholom Jacobs.

IMPERIAL MOMENT: Gray colt (February 2) out of French stakes-placed South Bank by Tapit. Dam is a daughter of European champion and dual classic winner Special Duty, from the same family as current Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) star Expert Eye and fellow Juddmonte celebrities Sightseek and Tates Creek.

LADY DELAWARE [originally named I ‘m American Made]: Bay filly (April 23), half-sister to 2014 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hootenanny, out of More Hennessy by Hennessy. Dam is a half-sister to Grade 1 vixen Cat Moves from the further family of Grade 1 scorer Ascend and 2018 Del Mar Futurity (G1) third Roadster. Sold for $100,000 at Keeneland September to Cromwell Bloodstock.

LAND OF MAYBE: Chestnut filly (April 10), half-sister to Group 3 vixen Liquid Amber, out of multiple Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Pachattack by Pulpit. Niarchos Family homebred was exported to Ireland and now listed with trainer Pascal Bary in France.

LASHARA: British-bred bay filly (April 11) out of Grade 3 heroine Marbre Rose by Smart Strike. Dam is a half-sister to Gidu, a current Grade 3-placed multiple stakes scorer, and from the immediate family of Grade 1 winner Zoftig, who produced Grade 1 vixens Zo Impressive and Zaftig. Sold for €850,000 ($972,995) at the French auction house Arqana’s August Yearling Sale to Deuce Greathouse, agent, for Cindy Hutson and Robert Masterson (best known as Tepin’s owner).

MIA PHAROAH [originally named Album]: Bay filly (March 26) out of stakes-winning Platinum by Mineshaft. Dam is a three-quarter sister to Grade 1 victress A. P. Adventure. Sold as named for $220,000 as a Keeneland September yearling to Victory Racing Partners. Getting her early education at South Carolina’s Webb Carroll Training Center.

MO AMERICAN: Gray colt (March 4), half-brother to ill-fated champion sprinter Points Offthebench, Grade 3 winner Bench Points, and Japanese stakes scorer Molto Allegro. Out of Mo Chuisle by Free House, a descendant of Grade 1 queen Alma North like multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Iotapa. RNA for $240,000 at Keeneland September.

ORONTES: Bay colt (January 27), half-brother to aforementioned Grade 2 victor Protonico and Kakadu, thus a three-quarter brother to FIRST PHAROAH (see above). Out of Alpha Spirit by A.P. Indy, a daughter of Chilean Co-Horse of the Year and U.S. Grade 1 winner Wild Spirit.

OUR AMERICAN GAL: Bay filly (February 21) out of Baroness Amira by Street Cry. Dam is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Pioneerof the Nile, sire of American Pharoah, thereby giving close inbreeding to Star of Goshen (dam of Pioneerof the Nile and Baroness Amira). Sold for $360,000 at Keeneland September to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Justin Casse. Plans call for her to be trained by Mark Casse.

PHAROAH CAT: Dark bay colt (February 20) out of Meerkat Miss by Giant’s Causeway. Dam is a three-quarter sister to European champion juvenile Hold That Tiger and a half-sister to 1996 Belmont (G1) scorer Editor’s Note, from the same female line as influential sire Hennessy. First sold for $375,000 as a Keeneland November weanling before going as a September yearling for $475,000 to Beth Bowman Harper.

PHAROAH KING [originally named Good Fortune]: Bay colt (February 26), half-brother to 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) runner-up and Scandinavian champion Giovanni Boldini, out of Dancing Trieste by Old Trieste. First sold for $525,000 as a weanling at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November and realized a healthy profit when selling for $800,000 at Keeneland September to David Redvers on behalf of Qatar Racing Ltd. Entered in 2020 Derby (G1) at Epsom.

PHAROAH LADY: Bay filly (February 8) out of Theworldweknow by Speightstown. Dam is a half-sister to Grade 1 queen Marylebone from the extended family of multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Came Home. RNA for $290,000 at Keeneland September.

PISTA: Bay filly (March 30) out of Mohini by Galileo. Dam is a daughter of French highweight juvenile filly Denebola, and “aunt” of French classic winner Senga, from the family of such champions as 2004 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) star Bago and Machiavellian – the same line as BEST COMPANY (see above). Sold for $675,000 at Keeneland September to Tony Lacy, agent for Heider Family Stables. Exported to Ireland and joined trainer Joseph O’Brien.

SWEET LITTLE INDY: Bay filly (March 3) out of Indy Dreaming by A.P. Indy. Dam is a full sister to Grade 1-winning sire Majestic Warrior, stakes scorer Crystal Current, and A.P. Dream, who produced multiple stakes victress and Group 2-placed Wind Fire. Second dam Dream Supreme, a multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire, emulated her own dam Spinning Round by taking the Ballerina (G1) at Saratoga.

THANKFUL: Bay filly (February 13), half-sister to 2013 Schuylerville (G3) winner Brazen Persuasion and fellow juvenile stakes scorer Behold de Buy, out of Beholden by Cat Thief. Sold for $625,000 at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga to Steven W. Young, agent.

UNDER THE OAKS: Bay filly (January 25) out Grade 1-placed stakes winner Maybellene by Lookin at Lucky. Dam, a fellow Baffert trainee, hails from the family of influential sire Elusive Quality and further back, champions Anees and Truly Bound. Sold for $375,000 at Keeneland September to Lane’s End Bloodstock, agent for West Point Thoroughbreds and Chris Larsen. In Ocala at last West Point report and ultimately slated to join Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer.

WISH WAY: Chestnut filly (April 21) out of Wesley Ward’s champion female sprinter Judy the Beauty by Ghostzapper. Dam missed narrowly to repeat champion Groupie Doll in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) before taking the top prize the following year.
