The Pegasus World Cup (G1) at Gulfstream Park is the highlight of the weekend’s stakes action, but it is far from the only graded contest taking place. The $9 million extravaganza is joined this year by the inaugural Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1), which boasts a purse of $7 million. Four other graded events also take place on Gulfstream’s Saturday card.
Before the Pegasus World Cup, however, Oaklawn Park kicks off its 2019 meet Friday with the Smarty Jones Stakes sending nine sophomores in pursuit of 10-4-2-1 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby .
