Brent McLellan, Russell McLellan and trainer Stuart Simon’s Sister Peacock broke best in Sunday’s $76,089 Star Shoot S. at Woodbine. The sophomore filly never looked back after the start in a securing a 1 1/4-length victory under Jesse Campbell.
The bay daughter of Real Solution, who was sent postward as the 9-5 favorite, established splits of :22.97, :45.99 and :57.62 on the Tapeta, prior to completing the six-furlong feature in 1:09.53. She rewarded her backers with mutuels of $5.70, $3.50 and $3.10.
Missmizz was in second every step of the way to complete the exacta at 13-1. Power Gal was more than two lengths back in third and rounded out the trifecta at 10-1 odds.
Sister Peacock improved her lifetime line to 5-3-2-0, $109,244 following her triumph. The Kentucky-bred filly was second in a pair of turf stakes races at Gulfstream Park to commence her three-year-old campaign. She was perfect from a pair of starts at Woodbine as a juvenile.
The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, and was purchased for the bargain price of $9,000 at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
She is the first stakes winner out of the In Excess mare Imforeal, who is a half-sister to a trio of stakes stars including 2006 Santa Anita Derby (G1) victor and sire Brother Derek. Imforeal is also responsible for an unnamed yearling colt by Kitten’s Joy.
