Bending Strings takes Flight

John D. Gunther’s homebred BENDING STRINGS (American Chance)
came four wide into the stretch of Saturday’s $150,000 First
Flight H. (G2)
at Aqueduct before drawing away to post an easy 5
3/4-length win under Shaun Bridgmohan. Trained by Kiaran
McLaughlin, the dark bay miss completed seven furlongs on the
fast track in 1:22 as the 2-1 favorite.

Bending Strings paid out $6, $3.10 and $2.30 while keying the
$18 exacta and $49.80 trifecta (5-1-4). Smokey Glacken (Forestry)
held Passing Shot (A.P. Indy) by 2 3/4 lengths and returned $3.50
and $2.50 while show was worth $2.60. Next came Sensibly Chic
(Distorted Humor), Schedule (GB) (Brian’s Time) and Hidden Ransom
(Silver Ghost).

Bending Strings has now earned $454,300 with a record of
14-5-4-0. Her two other stakes wins came in the Nassau County
Breeders’ Cup S. (G2) and Safely Kept Breeders’ Cup S. (G3), and
she’s placed in the Test S. (G1). Bred in Kentucky, the
three-year-old filly is out of Straight South (Hail the Pirates)
and has a yearling half-sister named Get it Straight (Black
Minnaloushe).
