Fallon to return to England

Jockey Kieren Fallon has decided to abruptly end his stay in the United
States, the Racing Post reports. A six-time champion rider in Britain, Fallon
had originally planned on remaining in the United States through mid-March, but
turned against the idea recently, reportedly complaining about the racing
surfaces at Gulfstream Park. Fallon admitted that he did not like racing on the
dirt and expressed a desire to ride exclusively in turf racing. But his American
agent, Terry Miller, explained that his client has had a change of heart.

“He doesn’t like the fast ground — Kieren thinks the ground is too hard,”
Miller told the Racing Post. “I don’t really know what happened, but he told me
four or five days ago that he’d be going back. It’s a shame. He’s such a nice
guy and is a great rider.”

Fallon got off to a quick start in South Florida, winning with three of his
first 11 mounts, but his fortunes had turned since. Through Sunday’s racing, he
had ridden a total of six winners from 62 starts.
