Rockport Harbor looms large in Lexington

Last updated: 4/21/05 2:41 PM

Grade 2 winner ROCKPORT HARBOR (Unbridled’s Song) tops a field of eight entered
for Saturday’s $325,000 Lexington S. (G2) at Keeneland. The gray colt suffered
his first career setback when finishing a close second in his first and only
attempt this year, the Rebel S. (G3), and he was originally pointed toward the
Arkansas Derby (G2) before missing some training due to a blood clot. The speedy
sophomore appears back on course for trainer John Servis, who hopes to use the 1
1/16-mile Lexington as a springboard toward an appearance in the Kentucky Derby
(G1) two weeks later. Of course, the same can probably be said for the
connections of his seven rivals.

GOING WILD (Golden Missile) gave way badly when going up against Bellamy Road
(Concerto) in the Wood Memorial (G1) last out, but the D. Wayne Lukas-trained
colt showed much more earlier this year winning the Sham S. and San Miguel S.
and finishing second in the Santa Catalina S. (G2). He gets a chance to rebound
in the Lexington under jockey Gary Stevens. STORM SURGE (Storm Cat) is a
three-time stakes victor for conditioner Dallas Stewart and will attempt to
improve upon a third in the Louisiana Derby (G2).

Another entrant of interest is ACTXECUTIVE (Noactor), who went to the
sidelines following a runner-up finish in the Best Pal S. (G2) last August until
returning with an allowance victory in his last outing at Oaklawn Park in
mid-March.

Actxecutive will lead the post parade with jockey Rafael Bejarano. Next comes
COIN SILVER (Anees), Javier Castellano; Storm Surge, Robby Albarado; Going Wild;
ROCKPORT HARBOR (Unbridled’s Song), Stewart Elliott; SORT IT OUT (Out of Place),
Pat Valenzuela; SKYE’N THUNDER (Thunder Gulch), Mike Smith; and FOREVER WILD
(Jules), Jorge Chavez.

Rockport Harbor will carry 123 pounds, the rest 117.
