Favorite Trick filly headlines OBS

A dark bay filly by Favorite Trick brought a winning bid of $100,000 from
Lonnie Arterburn to top Wednesday’s second open session of the OBS 2005 August
Yearling Sale. Consigned as Hip No. 799 by Tara Stables Inc., agent, the
Kentucky-bred miss is out of the winning Marshua Mella (Marshua’s Dancer), who is a half-sister to
Mello but Bold (Nasty and Bold), herself the dam of Azeri Breeders’ Cup S. (G3)
winner Injustice (Lit de Justice).

The highest-priced colt during the session went to Joseph Brocklebank, agent,
for $75,000. From the Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), agent,
consignment, the dark bay colt entered the ring as Hip 764 and is by Syncline
out of Lolo Creek (Housebuster).

For the session, 188 yearlings sold for a gross $2,087,100, an average of
$11,102 and a median of $6,250. Those numbers represent decreases of 28.9
percent, 11.5 percent and 21.9 percent over last year, when 234 horses were
bought for a total $2,933,600, a $12,537 average and an $8,000 median. The
buyback percentage increased from 18.2 percent to 29.3 percent.
