Fair Grounds Race Course announced additional races and purse enhancements
for January, the last month of its meet at Louisiana Downs.
Beginning with Sunday’s program, an 11TH race will be added to the race card.
On January 21-22, “Louisiana Lagniappe Weekend,” purses for each of the six
Louisiana-bred stakes will be boosted by $25,000. All other stakes purses will
be increased by changing their status from “guaranteed” to “added,” so that
nomination and entry fees will be added to the listed purse money. Moreover,
overnight purses will rise 20 percent on four “Owner Appreciation Days” —
January 7, 14, 21 and 22, which is closing day of the 37-day meet.
Purses were enhanced because business levels at six Fair Grounds affiliated
off-track betting (OTB) facilities continue to exceed expectations after
re-opening in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Fair Grounds Race Course and four
other OTBs remain closed.
