Montjeu filly tops Flat sale

Montjeu (Ire) had just one offering at Monday’s Tattersalls Ireland’s
December Flat Sale, but as with many other European auctions this year, it was
the Coolmore prodigy who stole the show. Colbinstown Lodge consigned Hip No.
205, a filly out of a half to Great Dane, and Patrick Cooper signed the docket
on behalf of BBA Ireland after a final bid of £65,000
for the descendant of Alligatrix (Alleged), dam of Croco Rouge and Alidiva
(Ire).

The top-selling broodmare was Hip 196, five-year-old GREAT IDEA (Lion
Cavern), who was knocked down to Denis O’Flynn’s Ring View Stud for
£35,000. From the draft of Killula Stud, she
is out of a half to this year’s Dewhurst S. (Eng-G1) winner Sir Percy (Mark of
Esteem [Ire]) and is in foal to Namid.

Chairman Edmond Mahony heralded a record-breaking year for the sales company.

“(This year) has been an excellent year for Tattersalls Ireland and a tribute
to both the vendors and purchasers who have made it our best ever,” he said.
“Records have been comprehensively broken at almost every sale and the annual
turnover has risen for the fifth consecutive year to a record total well in
excess of £46,000,000. Consistent
achievement on the racecourse is the key to successful sales and with so many
top class Tattersalls Ireland performers, both flat and national hunt, we can
look forward to continuing to build on this record breaking year, with further
investment in our site to enhance Tattersalls Ireland’s reputation as a centre
of excellence for the Irish Thoroughbred.”
