Maktoum family earns Duke of Devonshire bronze

Last updated: 1/10/06 8:30 PM

The Dubai-based Maktoum family received the Duke of Devonshire bronze at the
Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association’s Annual Awards’ Dinner in London Tuesday
night. The award recognizes the input the Maktoum family have made to racing and
breeding in Britain after an involvement spanning nearly 30 years.

Since Hatta’s victory for Sheikh Mohammed at Goodwood in 1977, horses owned
by members of the Maktoum family have captured virtually every major race on the
international racing calendar, with success coming for each of the brothers in
their own right, as well as the family’s Godolphin operation.

Godolphin, founded in 1994, has recorded 124 Group or Grade 1 wins worldwide
to date. Milton Park Stud’s long-serving stud groom John England received the
evening’s other award, the TBA’s Dominion Bronze.
