Bushfire burns up the track in
Ashland

Homewrecker Stable LLC’s BUSHFIRE (Louis Quatorze) grabbed the lead out of
the gate from her rail post and proceeded to lead the way home in Saturday’s
$500,000
Ashland S. (G1)
at Keeneland. With Cornelio Velasquez aboard, the bay filly
set splits of :23 1/5, :46 2/5 and 1:10 4/5 while being pressed first by Sweet
Sugaree (Tiznow) and then by Wait a While (Maria’s Mon). Crossing under the line
6 1/2 lengths the best, she stopped the clock in 1:45 for 1 1/16 miles on the
fast main track.

Sent off the 15-1 fifth choice, Bushfire rewarded her faithful supporters
with payouts of $32.20, $13.80 and $4.20. Wait a While hung on to second by 4
1/4 lengths, returning $5 and $2.80 at 3-1, while 1-2 favorite Balance (Thunder
Gulch) gave back $2.10. The exacta paid $111.20, the trifecta $260.60 and the
1-3-6-8 superfecta was worth $1,118.

Itty Bitty Pretty (El Corredor) was another 2 3/4 lengths back in fourth and
was followed by Sweet Sugaree, Performing Diva (Storm Cat), Saratoga Drive (Siphon
[Brz]) and Coolwind (Forest Wildcat).

Prior to Saturday’s score, the Eddie Kenneally-trained Bushfire captured the
Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs by three parts of a length while setting the
pace. She did not like the sloppy conditions in the Davona Dale S. (G2) before
that one, finishing well back in seventh to Wait a While. The sophomore’s record
now stands at 6-4-0-1 and she nearly tripled her lifetime earnings to $475,740.

Bred in Florida by Moreau Bloodstock International and Mandolynn Hill Farm,
Bushfire RNA’d for $37,000 as a Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling. She is
out of the stakes-winning Traki Traki (Mo Power), who has also produced stakes
winners Frosty’s Girl (Frosty the Snowman), Maracaibo (Skip Trial) and Frosty’s
On Track (Frosty the Snowman). Bushfire also has an unnamed yearling
half-brother by Macho Uno.
