Goffs sale starts Saturday

Last updated: 4/21/06 7:50 PM

Goffs France hosts its one-day Breeze-Up and Horses in Training Sale on
Saturday, with 130 lots on offer. Recent alumni in a sale which saw increases in
average and aggregate last year include Grand Couturier (Grand Lodge), who
looked unlucky when third in last Monday’s Prix Noailles (Fr-G2) at Longchamp.

Among the stallions represented are Alhaarth, Barathea (Ire), Cadeaux
Genereux, Grand Lodge, Highest Honor (Fr), Marju, Peintre Celebre and Tiger
Hill, as well as freshmen Beat Hollow (GB), Invincible Spirit, Noverre and
Sakhee. With Breeze-Up regulars Mark Dwyer, Willie Browne and Con Marnane all
represented, there is every chance that the returns at Doncaster and Newmarket
will have a knock-on effect here.

Dwyer’s Oaks Farm Stables, who consigned a son of Tiger Hill to top the sale
at 68,000 last year, supply an eye-catcher in Hip No. 79, a Grand Lodge half-brother
to Prix de Flore (Fr-G3) winner Australie (Sadler’s Wells) from the family of
1993 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) hero Arcangues and multiple highweight
Aquarelliste (Danehill). Browne’s Mocklershill Stables aim to capitalize on a highly
successful week at Tattersalls with a select team. Their draft is highlighted by
Hip 97, a filly by Compton Place out of a sister to multiple stakes winner
Ultimo Imperatore (GB) and stallion Sugarfoot. Hip 50, a filly by Tiger Hill out
of a half-sibling to Ramona H. (G1) heroine See You Soon (Fr) (Kaldoun), is a notable
entry from Marnane’s Bansha House Stables. Grove Stud consigns Hip 56, a Marju
filly out of the listed winner Splendida Idea (Ire) (Kenmare) from the family of dual
Irish champion Law Society.

Following the Breeze-Up session, the Horses in Training auction gets underway
and there is bound to be interest in last year’s Criterium du Languedoc-winning
sophomore colt PRECIOUS BUNNY (Peintre Celebre), consigned by trainer Richard
Chotard as Hip 163. Amongst the prized draft of His Highness the Aga Khan is Hip
157, the unraced three-year-old filly SHARBASIA (King’s Best), a half to
Grade/Group 3 winner Sharbayan (Ire) from the family of Shergar.

Breezing begins on the Saint-Cloud racecourse in the morning, with selling
getting underway in the afternoon. Full catalog and updates can be viewed on www.goffs.fr.
