Martin Schwartz’s LADY OF VENICE (Fr) (Loup Solitaire) moved to the fore
turning for home and powered home an impressive 2 1/4-length winner of the
$100,000
Appalachian S. over the good Keeneland turf course on Sunday. Breaking
alertly but reserving off the pace in the early going, the winner, under the
guidance of Julien Leparoux, traveled widest of all turning for home but was
never seriously threatened in this fine performance. The final time for the one
mile was 1:35 4/5 and the 8-5 second choice gave back $5.20, $3.80 and $2.60 for
trainer Patrick Biancone.

May Night (Gulch) made her customary late run and finished well to earn the
place. The miss returned $6 and $2.80 while completing the $26.20 exacta at 8-1.
J’Ray (Distant View) encountered some trouble in the lane and could do no better
than third, worth $2.10 at 6-5. The winning trifecta paid $67.40 and the 1-2-4-6
superfecta gave back $121.20. Saoirse Cat
(Storm Cat) was next and followed by Sorority Wildcat (Lear Fan), while Dyna’s
Destiny (Dynaformer), C K Given (Point Given), Aunt Henny (Hennessy) and Stadore
(Fr) (Kendor) were withdrawn.

Lady of Venice has now posted wins in three straight outings, following a
second place performance in her career debut. The first time stakes winner sports a
4-3-1-0 lifetime mark with a bankroll of $105,108.

The winner was bred in France by Sca Elevage de Tourgeville and M Enrico
Erculiani, and produced from the unraced Lacewings (Forty Niner).
