Steve Ramsey’s GIGAWATT (Wild Again) stalked in second for much of Saturday’s
$150,000
Miami Mile Breeders’ Cup H. (G3)
at Calder before taking over at the eighth
pole to score a half-length victory. Trained by Michael Lerman, the dark bay
six-year-old trailed in behind Keep Cool (Frosty the Snowman), who set splits of
:23 4/5, :46 4/5 and 1:10 3/5, before taking over in the stretch and going on to
finish the mile on the firm turf in 1:34 2/5.

Sent off the 29-1 sixth choice in the 10-horse field, Gigawatt gave back
$61.60, $12.60 and $8 for his win under Chantal Sutherland. Spring House
(Chester House) rallied from last on the backstretch to dead-heat with Old
Forester (Forestry), who rated in midpack before putting in his run, for
runner-up honors. The former was worth $4 and $4.20 at 8-1 while part of the
$238.80 exacta (3-4), $1,034 trifecta (3-4-7) and $2,219.40 superfecta
(3-4-7-1). Old Forester gave back $2.40 and $2.80 as the 8-5 favorite and was
part of the $97 exacta (3-7), $588.80 trifecta (3-7-4) and $2,008.20 superfecta
(3-7-4-1).

Icy Atlantic (Stormy Atlantic) finished another half-length back and was
followed by Twilight Road (Cahill Road), Woodlander (Forestry), Keep Cool, Bob’s
Proud Moment (Proud and True), Big Luck (Per) (Short Selling) and T. D. Vance
(Rahy). Whos Crying Now (Concerto) was withdrawn.

Gigawatt earned his first graded score here, but previously captured the 2002
Display S. and 2004 Louisiana H. He also owns four black-type placings,
including last year’s Mineshaft H. (G3), and now boasts a 27-8-4-3 career mark
with $498,082 in lifetime earnings.

Bred in Kentucky by Stonerside Farm, Gigawatt is the second foal out of Grade
3 winner Ascutney (Lord at War [Arg]), who also has an unnamed yearling colt by
Elusive Quality and an unnamed 2006 Storm Cat filly.
