Jockey John Velazquez was injured Thursday when his mount UP AN OCTAVE
(Brahms) broke down and fell shortly after winning the $110,600 Forerunner S. at
Keeneland.

Track physician Dr. Barry Schumer described Velazquez as “awake and alert”
after examining the Eclipse Award-winning jockey in the track’s first-aid
facility. He said Velazquez would be transported by ambulance to the University
of Kentucky Hospital for further testing and X-rays.

Up an Octave, trained by Todd Pletcher, suffered a compound fracture of the
left foreleg and was euthanized on the turf course.
