Baden-Baden Spring Mixed sale to commence Monday

Last updated: 5/21/06 8:59 PM

Baden-Baden Sales Company (BBAG) host their Spring Mixed Sale Monday, which
features a breeze-up of 67 two-year-olds. This auction received a major boost
when Lolita (Lavirco) became its first classic-scoring graduate last
month when winning the German One Thousand Guineas (Ger-G2) at Dusseldorf. With consignments
from Breeze-Up specialists Bansha House Stables, Edward Butler, Alexander
Pereira, Gestut Erlenhof and Fredy Gang Bloodstock among the 142-strong
catalog, the portents are strong.

As usual, the major domestic sires such as Acatenango, Big Shuffle, Dashing
Blade and Monsun are represented, while the international sires feature Celtic
Swing, Danehill Dancer, Dynaformer, Singspiel (Ire) and even Sadler’s Wells. The latter is
responsible for Hip No. 9, one the sale’s highlights from Con Marnane’s draft. He is
a half-brother to the Racing Post Trophy (Eng-G1) and Two Thousand Guineas
(Eng-G1) runner-up Tamburlaine (Ire) from the Ballymacoll family of the top-class Islington (Ire)
and Greek Dance.

Amongst Butler’s consignment is Hip 126, another juvenile
colt by Kalanisi (Ire), who is a three-quarter brother to the Irish Oaks
(Ire-G1) winner Margarula (Doyoun). Hip 31 is a jewel in the Pereira draft,
being a colt by Tiger Hill from the family of the Henkel-Rennen (German One
Thousoand Guineas [G1]) winner Diacada (Cadeaux Genereux).

Of the domestic contingent, Clarissa Hiddenmann offers Hip 38, a
two-year-old Singspiel filly out of a winning half-sister to the excellent
producer Cocotte (Kaiseradler), the dam of champions Pilsudski (Ire) and Fine Motion
(Danehill). Gestut Ammerland offers Hip 16, a three-year-old filly by Java Gold who
is a half to the listed winner Arbitrage (Linamix).

Broodmare prospects include Multi
Breed International’s Hip 100, the three-year-old filly SQUAW CREEK EXIT (Silvano
[Ger]). From the first crop of the son of Lomitas (GB), she hails from the
immediate family of leading sire influence Surumu. The very next lot is Gestut Erlenhof’s winning three-year-old filly
SHOOTING STAR (Alzao), who
is a descendant of the champion producer Rose Dubarry (*Klairon).
