Peachtree Stable’s HIGH COTTON (Dixie Union) wasn’t quickest from the
gate in Saturday’s $100,000

Sir Barton S.
on the Preakness undercard, but quickly moved to the
fore and easily pulled away for the 5 1/2-length win. With Garrett Gomez
in the saddle, the Todd Pletcher-trained sophomore set splits of :23
3/5, :46 4/5, 1:10 4/5 and 1:36 1/5 before finishing 1 1/16 miles on the
fast Pimlico dirt in 1:42 4/5. High Cotton, sent off the 4-1 third
choice, paid $10.40, $5 and $3.80 while keying the $46.80 exacta,
$246.40 trifecta and $461.60 superfecta ($1) (3-7-5-1).

Ultimate Goal (Storm Cat) raced in second throughout and was clearly
best of the rest, 5 1/4 lengths up on Little Cliff (Gulch), to return $5
and $3.60 at 7-2. Show was worth $4.40 at nearly 6-1. Vegas Play
(Exploit), even-money favorite Ah Day (Malibu Moon), Our Peak (Peaks and
Valleys) and Sharps Island (Deputy Minister) completed the order of
finish.

High Cotton earned his first stakes win in the Rushaway S. at Turfway
Park in late March and also owns placings in the Kentucky Jockey Club S.
(G2) and Iroquois S. (G3). The bay colt now boasts a 9-3-2-1 career mark
with $220,450 in lifetime earnings, and is out of the unraced Happy Tune
(A.P. Indy), who has an unnamed juvenile filly by Dixieland Band, an
unnamed yearling colt by Giant’s Causeway and an unnamed 2006 colt by
Tale of the Cat.

A few races prior to the Sir Barton, David Ross’ MY LORD (Lord
Carson) rallied from last in the $94,500

Baltimore Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint S.
to score by three-quarters of
a length at the wire. Trained by Ann Merryman, the seven-year-old
gelding was swung out to the middle of the track in the stretch by
apprentice Rosie Napravnik and closed with a rush to get five furlongs
on the firm turf in :57 2/5.

My Lord adds a first stakes victory to his record with this one and improved
his line to 36-9-6-6 with $254,360 in earnings.

Joseph Cuppy III’s OFF THE GLASS (Press Card) was an easy seven-length victor
in the $50,000
Murmur
Farm Starter H.
for trainer Damon Dilodovico. Running 1 1/16 miles in 1:43
3/5 under Ramon Dominguez, the seven-year-old gelding now owns a 55-11-10-7,
$271,980, record.
