A field of eight will go forward for the $250,000 Californian S. (G2) at
Hollywood Park on Saturday. DIXIE MEISTER (Holzmeister) comes off a good third
in the Mervyn LeRoy H. (G2) to Surf Cat (Sir Cat) and SPELLBINDER (Tale of the
Cat), and the four-year-old gelding should like the added ground in this 1 1/8-mile
event. The dark bay earned triple-digit BRIS Speed figures in his
last two, while recording BRIS Late Pace ratings of 99 and 110. His late speed
should prove beneficial to him here and, in a race open to almost anyone, should
get up near the top at the wire for hot trainer
Julio Canani. David Flores has the call.

PREACHINATTHEBAR (Silver Charm) comes back to a track over which he has succeeded on in
the past (7-4-0-0) and looks to improve off an eighth-place finish in the Lone
Star Park H. (G3) over muddy going. The Bob Baffert trainee
has good rating skills, winning the Texas Mile S. (G3) and Tokyo City Cup H. (G3)
after stalking in midpack for part of the race. The five-year-old gray is always
dangerous and will be regaining the services of Victor Espinoza.

SUPER FROLIC (Pine Bluff) is making his first start since running ninth in
the Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) more than two months ago. The chestnut has been training well in
the interim for Vladmir Cerin and should improve here.
Jon Court will ride.

Spellbinder has run out of the money only once in his last six starts, that
being a seventh-place finish in the Santa Anita H. (G1) in March. He surrendered
the lead to Surf Cat in the stretch of the Mervyn LeRoy but held on to run second, and
he now
holds a 7-2-2-1 mark over Hollywood’s main surface. The Richard Mandella trainee
has hit the board in both of his attempts at 1 1/8 miles and it is perfectly within his
ability to find the winner’s circle under regular rider Martin Pedroza.

MELANYHASTHEPAPERS (Game Plan) proved much the best in the Cougar II S. at
Hollywood nearly two months ago. The five-year-old dark bay has good tactical
rating abilities and could get up for part. YES HE’S A PISTOL (Yes It’s True)
will try to improve on a seventh in the Texas Mile last out. The chestnut colt
will be among
the likely pacesetters, but might get caught late.

THAT’S AN OUTRAGE (Quiet American) has only two wins in 26 starts and looks outclassed here. ICE COLE (Jules) finally broke his maiden in his
sixth start earlier this year and takes a class jump off an allowance win last
time out. We will bet against.
