A field of six will line up on Saturday for the $150,000 A Gleam Invitational
H. (G2) at Hollywood Park. The seven-furlong event is highlighted by SOMETHINABOUTLAURA (Dance Floor), who
comes off a close third in the Milady Breeders’ Cup H. (G2), but she will
probably be
going off at low odds. In search of a little more value, we’ll go with COTORRA
(Afternoon Deelites), who is listed at 12-1 on the morning line.

The Doug O’Neill charge has proven her worth over the Inglewood, California,
main track, posting a 3-2-1-0 record here, but her primary advantage could be her
tactical rating ability. With Somethinaboutlaura and MARYFIELD (Elusive Quality)
slugging it away on the front end, the former claimer could steal the
show under Martin Garcia.

Somethinaboutlaura hasn’t had her picture taken in the winner’s circle since
dominating the Foster City H. earlier this year. In the four starts since then,
and
after moving to the barn of trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, the chestnut has posted
solid seconds versus stakes company before losing her advantage in the Milady by
three-parts of a length. Victor Espinoza will try to get the four-year-old her
first graded victory.

Maryfield has improved greatly since O’Neill took over
training duties, winning the Flower Girl H. by 5 1/4 lengths and posting placings in
both the Bug Brush S. and Desert Stormer H. She will be stretching out for that
trainer to a distance which has not proved kind to her in the past, but the
five-year-old mare still warrants respect for the exotics.

GN. GROUP MEETING (General Meeting) comes off a seven-month break, but has a
good late kick and could get up quickly to threaten. ALLSWELLTHATNSWELL (Perfect Mandate) is the most experienced of the bunch with
22 races already under her belt. The one-paced runner has hit the board in her
last four starts, but can’t seem to get the monkey off her back, going winless in
her past seven starts. Consider for the gimmicks. LADY BERTRANDO (Bertrando) has not been
posting the numbers needed to menace here.
