Last updated: 8/29/06 3:06 PM

Doug Bredar, the racing secretary at Churchill Downs and Ellis Park, was
fired on Monday, according to Daily Racing Form. Bredar, 44, had served
in the positions since February 2002, when he succeeded the late Jerry Botts,
who worked as a racing official at Churchill for 30 years.

Julie Koenig Loignon, vice president of communications at Churchill Downs
Inc., the parent company of both tracks, said “no one within the company” would
comment on the termination “as a matter of policy.”

Bredar was fired a week before the end of the Ellis Park meet on Labor Day.

Before his tenure at Churchill and Ellis, Bredar worked as a racing official at
numerous tracks, including Hollywood Park, Gulfstream Park, Arlington Park, Turf
Paradise and Prairie Meadows. He and his wife, television reporter Caton Bredar,
live in Louisville, Kentucky.
