Brian Grassick of Newtown Stud was at the forefront of a strong fourth day of
trading during Goffs’ November Sale, paying 130,000 for a daughter of Bertolini,
making her the top-priced foal of the sale so far. Consigned by Barnane Stud as
agent, Hip 837 is a half-sister to October 22 Premio Guido Berardelli (Ity-G3)
winner Il Cadetto (Zieten) from the family of the smart German stakes winners
Nasr Allah and Chato.

“She has been bought for a partnership for Abbeville and Meadowcourt Studs
and will be re-offered next year,” Grassick explained. “She was a nice, scopey
filly with a good pedigree.”

Nirvana (Green Dancer), the dam of the session topper, was purchased for just
6,500 guineas carrying the Bertolini foal in utero last summer.

Jeremy Brummitt went to 125,000 for a colt from the first crop of the
brilliant Australian sprinter Exceed and Excel (Aus). Offered by Barrettstown
Farm House on behalf of John Doyle, Hip 742 is a half to listed stakes victor
Irony (Mujadil) from the family of the 1991 English Two Thousand Guineas
(Eng-G1) winner Mystiko and top-class South African performer Rabiya.

“I thought he was the nicest horse in the sale and an outstanding
individual,” the Yorkshire-based bloodstock agent said. “He’ll probably come up
for resale.”

Exceed and Excel was also responsible for Oghill House Stud’s Hip 745, a
half-sister to two stakes winners, who was purchased by the Somerset-based
Carmel Stud for 100,000. Shortly after, owner Kevin Cooke paid the same amount
for Hip 760, a son of Invincible Spirit out of a half to an Italian stakes
winner from the draft of the Irish National Stud, acting as agents.

“He’ll probably be kept to race and hopefully he’ll be a good one,” Cooke
said.

Late in the session, Elusive City proved popular again, as he had during
Tuesday’s session and Belmont Stud’s Hip 927, a colt from the family of dual
Group 3 winner Ahohoney (Ahonoora), was knocked down to Crone Stud for 120,000.
Paul Shanahan paid the same for Airlie Stud’s Hip 911, a colt by Danehill Dancer
out of a half to the top-class Vialli (Niniski).

Darley’s Kheleyf has his first foals selling this fall and one of his colts
was in demand. Consigned by Derek Veitch’s Ringfort Stud, Hip 877 is from the
family of sires Lugana Beach and Mtoto, and was secured by Peter Doyle
Bloodstock for 108,000.

After a solid day of trading, the gross was up by nearly 2 million on 12
months ago and the average of 33,510 represented an increase of 47 percent on
2005. With the select final day of foals to come Friday, the sale is certain to
exceed last year’s figures.
