BELGRAVIA (Mr. Greeley) and NOTIONAL (In Excess [Ire]) were impressive maiden
winners in their debuts. Belgravia accomplished
the task on the Polytrack at Keeneland and figures to be well supported in
Saturday’s Hollywood Prevue S. (G3), but we’re going to tab Notional, who has
yet to compete on a synthetic surface, for all the money.

Notional broke well, dropped back while stalking the pace on the outside,
then advanced quickly around the turn. The Doug O’Neill trainee drew off under a
vigorous hand ride through the lane, defeating 11 others by a widening 2 1/2 lengths
while running six furlongs on the dirt in 1:09 at Oak Tree at Santa Anita. The
bay colt has been training well on the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park (an easy
six furlongs in 1:14 1/5 on November 11) and may go forth at square odds. Note
that he gets a key rider change from Alex Bisono to Corey Nakatani.

Belgravia raced covered up while in hand, advanced behind the leaders turning
for home, bumped a foe to his outside to obtain running room near the
three-sixteenths marker, then drew off nicely and galloped out well when
unveiled in Lexington, Kentucky. The chestnut must look the part, selling for $2 million
earlier this year, and the runner-up came back to break his maiden at Churchill
Downs. Belgravia, who is trained by Patrick Biancone, has worked twice over this
surface and clearly is the one to beat under first-call rider Julien Leparoux.

Del Mar maiden winner DILEMMA (Grand Slam) split foes on the turn and then
closed determinedly along the rail to win the Sunny Slope S. by 2 1/4 lengths at
Oak Tree. The Paddy Gallagher-trained colt galloped out strongly after the
six-furlong test and is a player if he can transfer his form to Cushion Track.

MARKED WARRIOR (Cherokee Run) split foes on the turn, spurted clear in upper
stretch, then finished well to defeat maidens at Oak Tree in his latest. The
inexpensive dark bay worked extremely well on the Cushion Track since then (six
furlongs in a bullet 1:11 4/5) and rates our upset special.

The speedy CHIEF’S MAGIC (Chief Seattle) set the pace under pressure in the
two-turn, 6 1/2-furlong, restricted Barretts Juvenile S. before finishing second
as the 1-2 favorite. The Bob Baffert trainee figures to go as far as he can
on the front end but has the look of an underlay. PRIME RULER (Orientate) chased
three-wide on the turn, was fanned out turning for home, then finished an even
third in the Sunny Slope. He would have to improve to factor here.

HURRY UP AUSTIN (Lake Austin) turns back in distance after dueling for the
early lead and finishing fourth in the 1 1/16-mile Real Quiet S. over this
surface last out. He has class questions at this level. PAWNEE (Maria’s Mon)
broke his maiden in his seventh start last out and would be a surprise.
