Quad’s Melody tops Friday session; half-sister to Street Sense RNA’s

Group 3 winner QUAD’S MELODY (Ire) (Spinning World) sold for the top price of
$450,000 to Cecil Seaman, agent, at Friday’s session of the Keeneland November
Breeding Stock Sale in Lexington, Kentucky. The seven-year-old mare, in foal to
Action This Day on an April 22 cover, was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency,
agent.

Quad’s Melody won two of three starts, including the 2001 Prix d’Aumale
(Fr-G3) as a juvenile. The dark bay is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner
Bonapartiste (Fr) (Kendor) and French stakes winners Go Got (Solid Illusion) and
Sablier Noir (Marchand de Sable). She is out the Devil’s Bag mare Fab’s Melody,
a daughter of Grade 1-placed Distinctive Moon (Distinctive).

Quad’s Melody, who has a yearling colt by Grand Slam and a weanling colt by
Malibu Moon, was cataloged as Hip No. 1679.

A colt by Mr. Greeley, Hip 1705, was the highest-priced weanling, selling for
$330,000 to Wright Brothers Bloodstock. The chestnut colt, consigned by Taylor
Made Sales Agency, agent, is the first foal out of the unraced Saint Ballado
mare Saintly Hertfield, who preceded her offspring into the sales ring and sold
for the same amount to Its Like This Stable. The four-year-old mare is in foal
to Purge on a May 9 cover.

Saintly Hertfield is a half-sister to Arlington-Washington Breeders’ Cup
Futurity (G3) winner Got the Last Laugh (Distorted Humor), who was unplaced in
the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). The chestnut is out of Grade 3 winner Theresa’s
Tizzy (Cee’s Tizzy), a full sister to stakes hero Lesters Boy and a
half-sister to black-type winners Excessive Theresa (In Excess [Ire]) and Theresa’s Year (Half a
Year).

A half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Street Sense (Street Cry
[Ire]) was bought back for $850,000. Consigned by Calumet Farm, agent, as Hip
1446, the bay
filly by Distorted Humor is the third foal out of the winning Dixieland Band
mare Bedazzle, a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Binalegend (Binalong).
The filly’s second dam, stakes winner Majestic Legend (His Majesty), is a half-sister to
multiple Grade 3 winner and noted sire Mr. Greeley (Gone West).

On Friday, 263 horses sold for $22,575,500, a jump of 26.2 percent over last
year when 247 horses were bought for $17,889,200. The $85,838 average increased
18.5 percent over the 2005 average of $72,426, while the median rose 8.3
percent, from $60,000 to $65,000.

So far for the 14-day sale, 1,136 horses have been purchased for a total
$248,553,500, up 2.3 percent on last year when 1,131 sold for $242,887,400 by
this point. The average rose 1.9 percent, from $214,755 to $218,797, while the
$130,000 median also increased over last year’s $110,000, a jump of 18.2
percent.
