Saturday’s $100,000 Stuyvesant H. (G3) will be held over Aqueduct’s inner
track and there’s not a graded winner among the seven contestants. REVERBERATE
(Thunder Gulch) is the most proven member of the field, placing in this year’s
Brooklyn Breeders’ Cup H. (G2) and a pair of graded events last season, but
we’ll try to beat the likely favorite with an inner dirt specialist.
CARMINOOCH (Tomorrows Cat) ran well over the track last winter, recording a
pair of wins, a second and a third from four attempts against stakes rivals.
Those starts came against New York-bred competition, but Carminooch earned
commendable BRIS Speed ratings and fits well in this spot against open rivals.
He’s also proven himself over off tracks (4-3-0-1), and there’s been plenty of
wet weather at Aqueduct in recent days. The Todd Pletcher charge returned from
an extended layoff to record a good second in the nine-furlong Empire Classic H.
last time out, and we’ll look for him to move forward off that effort with a
victory on Saturday.
Reverberate made his seasonal debut in late June and earned century-topping
BRIS Speed ratings in his next two outings. He turned in a disappointing showing
when fourth in the Meadowlands Breeders’ Cup S. (G2) last time, but it won’t be
a surprise to see him rebound with a victory while dropping in class. What
concerns us is his propensity to come close without winning. The four-year-old
chestnut has compiled a 7-0-4-1 mark at the distance, and he’s also never raced
over a wet track.
ACCOUNTFORTHEGOLD (Successful Appeal) will likely show speed under Mike Luzzi
and exits a smashing nine-length triumph over allowance/optional claiming rivals
that was accomplished on a sloppy track. Similar footing will likely benefit the
four-year-old colt, but we expect him to face more early pressure than he did
last time. We can’t dismiss his chances, though, given his good current form.
TINSELTOWN (Pine Bluff) exits a couple of solid efforts at Belmont, is two
for two over wet tracks and deserves serious consideration for a minor award.
He’ll be running late, but the four-year-old has never been nine furlongs on the
main track and will have to stretch out to two turns here. ORGANIZER (Raffie’s
Majesty) will be forwardly placed under Eibar Coa, but he’s stuck on the far
outside and is a threat to regress off a hard-fought score last time out.
ELEMENTS (Charismatic) doesn’t look fast enough to challenge while stepping
up in class. BILLY ALLEN (Ire) (Night Shift) returns to America in poor form,
having failed to finish first or second in 10 starts this year. He also didn’t
run well in his three U.S. starts last year.
