Suarez Racing Inc. and Alex A. Venerri’s SUPER FREAKY (Smart Strike) subdued
a game Passified (GB) (Compton Place) by three-quarters of a length to land the
$112,600

Providencia S. (G3)
at Santa Anita on Saturday. The dark bay sophomore filly
settled into a stalking position in third beneath Jon Court as the pacesetting
Mystic Soul (Bahri) was pressed by Passified through splits of :23 1/5, :47 1/5
and 1:11 2/5. Passified struck the front at the top of the stretch, but inside
the final furlong, she could not contain the resolute charge of Super Freaky.
Dispatched at odds of nearly 9-1, the Doug O’Neill-trained winner yielded
$19.80, $9.60 and $6.60 while finishing the firm-turf mile in 1:35 2/5.

The 10-1 Passified kept on bravely for runner-up honors to return $10.80 and
$7.20. Another three-quarters of a length adrift came Gotta Have Her (Royal
Academy), who provided $6.60 to show at 7-1. The $1 exotics paid $67.80
(exacta) and $399 (trifecta), and with the 11-1 Courtwood (GB) (Noverre) in fourth,
the 3-11-9-1 superfecta swelled to $4,346.70. Macadamia (Artax), nearly 3-1
favorite Valbenny (Ire) (Val Royal [Fr]), Silver Swallow (Alphabet Soup), Mystic
Soul, Ashley’s Kitty (Tale of the Cat), Princess Iris (Ire) (Desert Prince
[Ire]) and Slew O’ Platinum (Stephen Got Even) completed the order under the
wire.

Super Freaky now sports a mark of 8-3-1-1 with $202,200 to her credit. She
was earning her second straight stakes score, having taken the La Habra S. on
the downhill course at this venue last time out.

Bred by Starlight Stables in Florida, the winner was a $140,000 Keeneland
September yearling purchase. She is the first registered foal from Elrose (Deputy
Minister), who is a half-sister to champion and dual classic winner Silver Charm
(Silver Buck). Super Freaky has a pair of unnamed half-siblings by Harlan’s
Holiday, a juvenile filly and a yearling colt.
