Autumn Horses in Training sale kicks off at Tattersalls

Last updated: 10/28/07 7:55 PM

The biggest-ever renewal of the world’s largest used horse exchange,
Tattersalls’ Autumn
Horses In Training Sale, gets underway in Newmarket on Monday. There is a record
1,613 lots cataloged over the next four days, with something for every type of
buyer on offer.
Demand from the Dubai International Carnival now adds an extra Flat dimension to
the sale,
which traditionally attracts big spenders from the United States and Hong Kong, although
with the British
and Irish jumping market at an all-time high, domestic buyers are also likely to
be powerful.

The
Aidan O’Brien-trained YELLOWSTONE (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar [Ire]) is a
supplementary entry to
the sale as Lot No. 634, but the three-year-old, who won the Gordon S. (Eng-G3) at Goodwood and
finished second in the Great Voltigeur S. (Eng-G2) at York, should prove a popular
addition to the
catalog. Lot 192, three-year-old CONFUCHIAS (Cape Cross [Ire]), has won
a Group 3
contest in each of the past two seasons for Irish trainer Frank Ennis and should
be another in
demand.

STRIKE THE DEAL (Van Nistelrooy), who finished fourth in Friday’s
Breeders’ Cup
Juvenile Turf, is still entered in the sale as Lot 1068, although connections
have stated he is
likely to be offered instead at the Tattersalls December Sale after his trip to
Monmouth Park. Among other two-year-olds set to appear are Group 3-placed DUBAI
TIME (Dubai
Destination), consigned from Kevin Ryan’s stable as Lot 27, as well as trainer
Neville
Callaghan’s duo GASPAR VAN WITTEL (Danehill Dancer) and LET US PREY (Hawk
Wing). The pair, cataloged as Lots 1056 and
1057, respectively, have both performed well in group company.

The consistent
four-year-old ASSET (Marju) is the highest-rated lot in the catalog with decent
group and listed
form and is offered by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing as Lot 430 from Richard
Hannon’s stable,
which consigns a big draft that also includes the Group 3-placed ORDNANCE ROW (Mark Of
Esteem [Ire]) as Lot 827. Hannon also offers Lot 826, ASSERTIVE (Bold Edge), a
four-year-old listed winner this season who also finished third in the Diadem S.
(Eng-G2) at Ascot.

Lot 467, SNOQUALMIE BOY (Montjeu [Ire]), won a listed event at Royal Ascot
last year for
trainer David Elsworth. Luca Cumani’s offerings are frequently well received,
and his draft
includes Lot 995, PRIDE OF NATION (Danehill Dancer), a five-year-old
entire who won
this season’s Sovereign S. (Eng-G3) at Salisbury.

Cheveley Park Stud’s homebred RED GALA
(Sinndar), Lot 711, finished fifth in Saturday’s St Simon S. (Eng-G3) at
Newbury and sells from
Sir Michael Stoute’s stable, which also consigns progressive three-year-old
LADIES BEST (King’s Best) as Lot 718.

“We have a very good catalog for
our largest-ever
Autumn Horses In Training Sale,” said Tattersalls Marketing Director Jimmy
George Sunday.
“The sale never stops pushing in high-class winners, both on the Flat and in the
National Hunt
world, and we look forward to welcoming the usual international class of buyers
combined with
a strong domestic presence.”

The sale runs through Thursday. For the catalog and outs, visit www.tattersalls.com.
