Octave is a late addition to Fasig-Tipton sale

Multiple Grade 1 heroine OCTAVE (Unbridled’s Song) is a late addition to the
catalog for Fasig-Tipton’s Selected Fall Mixed Sale in Lexington, Kentucky, on
Sunday. The three-year-old gray will be offered by Taylor Made Sales Agency as a
racing or broodmare prospect and comes to the sale off a driving third-place
finish in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Monmouth Park.

Owned and raced by Starlight Stable and Don Lucarelli, Octave won two legs of
this year’s Triple Tiara — the Mother Goose S. (G1) and the Coaching Club
American Oaks (G1). She has never missed first, second or third in 13 career
starts to date and has won or placed in eight Grade 1 events for earnings of
$1,660,934.

Her trainer, Todd Pletcher, would be thrilled to continue training her, if
that is the wish of her buyer.

“She has been a model of consistency and class since we first started her in
2006, always totally competitive at the highest levels of racing,” Pletcher
said. “Octave has been a dream for my stable — tough and versatile with a race
record showing wins from 4 1/2 to 10 furlongs.”

Jack Wolf, principal of Starlight Stable, commented on the late decision to
offer Octave at public auction.

“Don and I feel this is excellent timing to realize the full asset value of
Octave,” Wolf said. “She has been nothing short of sensational for two full
seasons. We are a racing partnership and sold Ashado for $9 million in similar
circumstances, so offering Octave is very much in line with our business model.

“Fasig-Tipton’s November 4 catalog presents a level of quality which pretty
much guarantees exposure for Octave to the world’s leading buyers. We are
delighted to supplement her to the sale.”

Octave will be cataloged as Hip No. 112A among approximately 180 offerings in
the Selected Mixed Sale, which gets underway at Newtown Paddocks at 2:00 p.m.
(EST).

In other Fasig-Tipton news, The Blood-Horse reports that
Gazelle S. (G1) winner LEAR’S PRINCESS (Lear Fan) will be withdrawn from
Sunday’s sale. The West Point Thoroughbreds colorbearer, who was 10th in the
Distaff (G1), had been cataloged as Hip 33.
