DBS Sales Complex progressing but not ready for January
Sales

The new Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (DBS) sales complex is looking good according to DBS
officials, but it will not be ready to open for their January Sales on January
28, 2008.

“Every time I visit the site I get more excited as our new sales complex
takes shape,” DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby reported following a site
meeting on Wednesday. “However, it is imperative that we get it 100 percent
right and I am afraid that will not be possible in advance of our January Sales.
Whilst that is rather frustrating, especially for me, we only want to open the
new complex when it is 100 percent ready.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the new currency and commission structure which
we announced in March will not come into force until we move — that was our
original commitment and remains the case as we see the two as indelibly linked.”

This has been a long road for DBS stretching back to 2000. The new DBS sales
complex will comprise 508 stables as well as a main sales arena building that
incorporates the sales ring, auctioneers’ offices, restaurant and bar. A separate
building will house veterinary facilities, grooms’ canteen and showers, and
more.

“Of course we are disappointed that we have just missed our January date, but
I am supremely confident that the delay will be well worth it when we open,” Beeby continued. “The builders told me (Wednesday) that they have not been able
to meet what has always been a very challenging program and, as we have set them
the highest standards, they need some extra time. The new sales complex opening
in the New Year was our target but, of course, we have the luxury of being able
to work from our existing sales paddocks until we are totally ready to move and
so the January Sales will take place on the present site.”
