A colt by Verglas (Ire) was the highlight of the second
session of the Goffs November Foal Sale Monday when selling
for 60,000. Consigned by Collegelands Stud, Hip No. 282 is out of
Ibtihal (Hamas [Ire]) and is from the family of the top-class Ibn
Bey (GB) and Roseate Tern (GB). He was snapped up by Bobby O’Ryan
for Cloverdale Bloodstock.
“I thought that he was a nice horse,
an athletic sort with a good step to him,” O’Ryan commented.
“Hopefully, he’ll be lucky and the sire is doing well.”
As on the
first day, progeny of Antonius Pius were commanding attention and
Tally-Ho Stud stepped in for a colt by Coolmore’s first-crop sire
consigned by Le Mont Stables as Hip 345. Out of the listed-placed
Minerwa (Protektor [Ger]), he was secured for 40,000.
“He’s a very nice foal by a good racehorse and he certainly stood
out today,” Tally-Ho’s Roger O’Callaghan said. “He’ll be back for
resale.”
Brian Grassick Bloodstock Ltd later paid 38,000 for Hip
402, a half-brother by Night Shift to the listed-placed juvenile
Rey Davis (King Charlemagne) from the draft of Mount Loftus Stud.
Francis
Woods secured the top-priced filly of the day when paying 25,000
for Hip 399, a daughter of Elusive City out of Ruacana Falls
(Storm Bird). From the draft of Woodfort Stud, she is out of a
close relation to the top-class Morgana and Panama City.
“She’s
quite a nice filly from a good pedigree,” he said. “She is a May
foal and we will let her tell us when she is ready to go to a
sale. Hopefully the sire will do well with his first runners next
year.”
As on the opening day, trading was marred by a clearance
rate of 46 percent, but unlike the previous session, the average
suffered as a result and was down by nearly 18 percent on 2006.
