(Benoit Photo)

Stronach Stables’ homebred CITRONNADE (Lemon Drop Kid) got the lead soon
after the break, established tepid splits to the final turn, and drew off with
ease to take the $150,000
Dahlia H. (G2) by
two lengths over the firm
Hollywood turf on Sunday. Sent right out of the gate by David Flores, the bay
filly easily took command to record splits of :24 1/5, :48 3/5, 1:12 2/5 and
1:35 3/5 for the opening mile, prior to completing the 8 1/2 furlongs in 1:41 2/5
while never under duress. The 4-5 favorite topped $1 exotics of $5.90 (exacta),
$81.80 (trifecta) and $520.10 (12-4-6-7 superfecta), while paying $3.80, $2.60 and
$2.40 for Bobby Frankel.

Black Mamba (NZ) (Black Minnaloushe) rated while inside in midpack, briefly
lacked room at the top of the lane and rallied well once clear to earn the place
spot, giving back $3.20 and $2.80 as the 3-1 second choice. Lavender Sky (Mt. Livermore) closed well from the
outside to get third another neck back. Show paid $6 for the 32-1 shot.
Marietta (Machiavellian) at 17-1 capped the super and was trailed by Meribel
(Peaks and Valleys), Hucking Hot (GB) (Desert Prince [Ire]), Memorette (Memo [Chi]),
Trick’s Pic (Favorite Trick) and Foxysox (GB) (Foxhound). Nashoba’s Key (Silver
Hawk), Live Life (Fr) (Linamix) and Shermeen (Ire) (Desert Style) were
withdrawn.

Citronnade notched her fifth graded win of 2007 with this one, having
previously captured the San Gorgonio H. (G2), Santa Ana H. (G2), Gamely
Breeders’ Cup S. (G1) and Beverly Hills
H. (G2), which were won in succession. The ultra-talented bay finished a
non-threatening fourth in the Beverly D. S. (G1) prior to a runner-up effort in
the Yellow Ribbon S. (G1) last out.

The Kentucky-bred miss is out of the stakes-winning Primarily (Lord at War [Arg]),
making her a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Whiskey Wisdom (Wild Again). More
notably, she counts 1997 Canadian champion two-year-old filly Primaly (Alydeed),
who was third in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), and 2000
Canadian champion two-year-old filly Poetically (Silver Deputy) as
half-siblings.

Citronnade’s record now stands at 14-9-3-0 and she’s accumulated $864,205 in
lifetime earnings.
