Street Cry colt brings $2.1 million

A colt by Street Cry (Ire) sold for the top price of $2.1 million at
Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton Calder Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale in Miami.
John Ferguson, bidding on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum,
purchased the handsome bay colt from the consignment of Scanlon Training Center,
agent.

The colt, who was cataloged as Hip No. 55, is the fourth foal out of the
winning Tabasco Cat mare Sage Cat. He is a half-brother to 2008 Chou Croute H.
queen Elliecat (Crafty Prospector). This is the same female family as Grade 2
winner and $809,341-earner Good and Tough (Carson City).

The sales topper previously sold for $425,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September
Yearling Sale. At the one and only under tack show on Friday, he breezed an
eighth-mile in :10 2/5.

A colt by Speightstown sold for $1.7 million to Demi O’Byrne, who represents
the Coolmore partnerships. Consigned by Leprechaun Racing, agent, the colt is
the fourth foal out of the unraced Holy Bull mare La Comete, a half-sister to
Grade 2 winner Lasting Approval (With Approval). His second dam is 1991 Queen
Elizabeth II Challenge Cup S. (G1) heroine La Gueriere (Lord At War [Arg]). This
is the same female family as 1974 French Horse of the Year Allez France
(*Sea-Bird). He was cataloged as Hip 254.

Leprechaun Racing, agent, purchased the Kentucky-bred chestnut for $150,000
at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale. At the under tack show, he
worked an eighth-mile in :10.

O’Byrne paid $1.5 million for a colt by Storm Cat out of Saratoga stakes
winner Country Romance (Saint Ballado). The dark bay colt, who was cataloged as
Hip 184, is the second foal out of Country Romance, a half-sister to Grade 2
winner Katz Me If You Can (Storm Cat). His second dam is 1990 Hollywood Starlet
S. (G1) vixen Cuddles (Mr. Prospector). This is the same female family as 1990
Broodmare of the Year Kamar (Key to the Mint).

Consigned by Ricky Leppala, agent, the Kentucky-bred youngster fetched
$300,000 at last year’s Keeneland September auction. He breezed an eighth-mile
in :10 1/5 at the under tack preview.

The highest price filly brought $900,000 from Lael Stable. By Medaglia d’Oro
out of multiple stakes winner Irish Cherry (Irish Open), the bay lass is a
half-sister to 2007 Cigar Mile H. (G1) king Daaher (Awesome Again) and 2006
Apple Blossom H. (G1) queen Spun Sugar (Awesome Again). She was cataloged as Hip
240.

The Canadian-bred filly was consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, agent, who
purchased her for $200,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga auction. At the
under tack show, she breezed an eighth-mile in :10 2/5.

The sales company reported 102 horses sold for $35,100,000, a decrease of
19.5 percent compared to last year when 124 horses changed hands for
$43,622,000. The average price declined 2.2 percent, from $351,790 to $344,118,
while the median price fell 8 percent, from $250,000 to $230,000. There were 69
horses listed as not sold, compared to 85 a year ago.
