City Zip colt drills in :21

Last updated: 6/15/08 6:15 PM

Hip No. 544, a colt by City Zip, zipped a quarter-mile in :21 at Sunday’s
second under tack show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s June Sale of
Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. Consigned by Woodside Ranch, agent, the
Maryland-bred juvenile is a half-brother to Grade 3-placed Premier Performer
(Conquistador Cielo).

The bay youngster was produced by the winning Play Po (Play On), who is a
half-sister to Grade 2 queen Penny’s Reshoot (Turkey Shoot) and stakes winners
Daimon (Strike Gold), Twin Propeller (Known Fact) and Hope Rises (Mr. Greeley).
This is the family of current multiple Grade 2 hero Smooth Air (Smooth Jazz),
who won the Hutcheson S. (G2) in January and most recently accounted for the May
31 Ohio Derby (G2).

A pair of juvenile fillies sizzled one furlong in :10. CARLA, a daughter of
Sky Mesa cataloged as Hip 349, turned in that time for Wavertree Stables (Ciaran
Dunne), agent. Out of the unraced Boundary mare French Line, the Kentucky-bred
bay is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Yessiremychickadee (Maria’s Mon).
French Line is herself a half-sister to Grade 1 winners Nine Keys (Forty Niner)
and Silver Voice (The Minstrel). Carla’s second dam is Clef d’Argent (Key to the
Mint), heroine of the 1979 Test S. (G2). Interestingly, Clef d’Argent is also
the second dam of a star at Saturday’s under tack show, Hip 170, a colt by More
Than Ready.

Likewise blazing one eighth in :10 was a gray filly by Exchange Rate.
Sporting Hip 398, the New York-bred is offered by Stephens Thoroughbreds, agent
for Vision Sales. The juvenile is out of the unraced Infinity (Saint Ballado),
and her fourth dam is Talking Picture (Speak John), the champion two-year-old
filly of 1973, who went on to produce such top European performers as Trusted
Partner (Affirmed) and Easy to Copy (Affirmed).

Two fillies shared the honors for working three panels in :33 2/5. Hip 455,
by freshman sire Peace Rules, is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Britten’s
Beauty (Doneraile Court). The New York-bred bay was produced by the winning Long
Gone Lady (All Gone), who is herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 scorer
Erica’s Dream (Two’s a Plenty) and multiple stakes victress Twosies Answer
(Two’s a Plenty), the dam of 1998 champion two-year-old male Answer Lively
(Lively One). This is also the family of the sire Briartic. The juvenile is
consigned by Shadybrook Farm (Michael Yates), agent.

SKIPPIN’ DAISY (Skip to the Stone), an unraced sophomore, posted the same
time. Cataloged as Hip 590, the Florida-bred bay hails from the consignment of
Gayle Woods, agent. She was produced by the unraced Evansville Slew mare Oopsy
Daisy, making her a half-sister to current Grade 2-placed campaigner
Eighteenthofmarch (Wild Event). This is the same female line as Canadian
champions Wilderness Song (Wild Again) and Dance to Market (Farm to Market), as
well as 2002 Belmont S. (G1) winner Sarava (Wild Again).

The sale will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, with each session beginning
at 10:30 a.m. (EDT). For the catalog, videos of all the
workouts, and a live broadcast of the sale, visit obssales.com.
