My Princess Jess claims Boiling Springs

Last updated: 6/28/08 6:17 PM

MY PRINCESS JESS (Stormy Atlantic) rallied boldly into contention on the far
turn and stormed into the stretch full of momentum in Saturday’s $150,000

Boiling Springs H. (G3)
at Monmouth Park, opening up a big lead before holding off runner-up
Much Obliged (Kingmambo) by a neck on the wire. Making her first start for owner
Lael Stables and trainer Barclay Tagg, the promising sophomore filly established
a new course mark while capturing her graded debut, completing 1 1/16 miles over
the firm ground in 1:39 4/5, and the dark bay lass improved her record to
6-3-3-0, $195,420.

Bet down to 9-5 favoritism, My Princess Jess returned $5.80, $3.20 and $2.60.
Much Obliged, who rated in last behind early splits in :23 and :46 3/5, closed
powerfully to just miss and gave back $4 and $3.40 as the 3-1 third choice. The
$2 exacta totaled $29.20. It was 3 1/2 lengths back to the 5-1 Forest Trail
(Forest Wildcat), who paid $3.40, and pacesetter Encanto Park (Exchange Rate)
rounded out the top four a neck back at 27-1. The $1 trifecta yielded $57.70, and the
3-8-6-4 superfecta was worth $739.70 for $1. Namaste’s Wish (Pulpit), the 5-2
second choice among nine fillies, came next under the wire and was followed by
Nicksappealinglady (Successful Appeal), Saki to Me (Fusaichi Pegasus), Yippety
Yip (Broken Vow) and Dagger (Tactical Cat).

Bred in Florida by Adena Springs, My Princess Jess is the first foal out of
the Pleasant Colony mare Jewell of Jewels and counts as half-siblings an unraced
juvenile filly named Awesome Pearl (Awesome Again), an unnamed yearling filly by Sligo
Bay (Ire) and a 2008 colt by Ghostzapper. Her nine-year-old dam is out Jewell
Ridge (Melyno [Ire]), which makes her a half-sister to 1996 champion older mare
and Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Jewel Princess, an earner of more than
$1.9 million. My Princess Jess was acquired by her previous connections for
$50,000 at the 2007 Adena March two-year-old sale.
