First winner for Spanish Steps

Last updated: 7/25/08 6:18 PM

When Spanish Ice rallied to capture Thursday’s 5TH race at Del Mar, the dark
bay juvenile became the first winner for her freshman sire, SPANISH STEPS
(Unbridled). Making her second career start, the Craig Dollase pupil advanced on
the turn, launched her bid in the stretch and drove 1 3/4 lengths clear. Spanish
Ice completed 5 1/2 Polytrack furlongs in 1:05 2/5 with Alonso Quinonez in the
irons.

Spanish Steps, a full brother to multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire and
successful sire Unbridled’s Song, never raced after sustaining an injury in
training. Out of the winning Caro (Ire) mare Trolley Song, the dark bay comes
from the family of Group/Grade 1 star Seattle Song (Seattle Slew).

The seven-year-old Spanish Steps stands for $10,000, live foal, at Martin Stables
South near Reddick, Florida.
