Macho Again, Tale of Ekati tune up for Travers

Jim Dandy S. (G2) winner MACHO AGAIN (Macho Uno) breezed a half-mile in :50
on Saratoga’s fast Oklahoma training track Saturday. A leading contender for
next Saturday’s 139th running of the Travers S. (G1), the Dallas Stewart
sophomore worked one day later than originally planned.

Macho Again’s move was postponed after he developed a reaction to his Lasix
shot on Friday. Instead of working, the gray colt galloped, but he escaped from
his handlers after being unsaddled.

“It was quite the rodeo,” Stewart joked of his Friday adventures. “He just
got loose, you know, these horses get loose. They get loose no matter who they
are. He was hard to catch. He just loves it up here. (But) he’s fine. He worked
good. So, all went well.”

Also prepping for the Travers, Wood Memorial S. (G1) hero TALE OF EKATI (Tale
of the Cat) drilled six furlongs in 1:13 3/5 on the fast main track. The Barclay
Tagg pupil was most recently fourth in the Jim Dandy.

Iowa Derby victor TIZ NOW TIZ THEN (Tiznow), exiting a third in the Jim
Dandy, strolled five panels in 1:03 4/5.

The Eoin Harty trainee could give his sire, two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic
(G1) star Tiznow, a Travers trio. Tiz Now Tiz Then’s stablemate, Santa Anita
Derby (G1) winner COLONEL JOHN (Tiznow), and Nick Zito’s Belmont S. (G1) shocker
DA’ TARA (Tiznow) are already confirmed for the 1 1/4-mile Midsummer Derby.
