Meadowlands in New Jersey released its 2008 stakes schedule on
Friday, which features just more than $1.5 million in stakes purses. The 41-day meet
begins on September 30 and runs through November 15.
The highlight of the schedule is the $350,000 Meadowlands Cup H. (G2) for
older horses at 1 1/8 miles on October 3, the first of four graded stakes during
the meet that will be run on consecutive Fridays. The others are the $150,000
Cliff Hanger S. (G3) on October 10 for older horses at 1 1/16 miles on the turf;
the $150,000 Violet S. (G3) on October 17 for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles
on the turf; and the $200,000 Pegasus S. (G3) on October 24 for three-year-olds
at 1 1/8 miles. The remaining stakes on the schedule all carry purses of $60,000
or $65,000.
Racing will be conducted each day with the exception of Sunday. Post time on
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays is 1:10 p.m. (ET), with post time on
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays set for 7 p.m.
