Taub & Visionary Racing LLC’s SKY CAPE (Najran) scored his third straight
stakes victory on Saturday when taking the $150,000
La Jolla
H. (G2)
by 1 1/2 lengths under jockey Joel Rosario. The Kristin
Mulhall-trained and -bred sophomore tracked in second as Liberian Freighter
(Bertrando) set the pace through splits of :24, :48 and 1:11 3/5, came three
wide into the stretch and finished 1 1/16 miles on the firm turf in 1:40 4/5.

Sky Cape was sent off the 12-1 co-seventh pick and paid out $27.60, $11.60
and $7.40 while keying the $93.60 exacta ($1), $1,072.10 trifecta ($1) and
$6,839.60 superfecta ($1) (6-1-10-9). Tangled Tango (Petionville) gave back
$6.60 and $4.20 for taking second by 1 1/4 lengths at 5-1 over Liberian
Freighter, who returned $7.80 at 15-1.

Madeo (Mizzen Mast), Nownownow (Whywhywhy), Moral Compass (Grand Slam),
Jungle Wave (Hold That Tiger), Coronel Moldes (Repent), Zetterbug (El Corredor)
and 5-2 favorite Tiz West (Gone West) completed the order under the wire.

Sky Cape earned his first graded win in this one, but recorded his first two
black-type victories in the Harry Henson S. and Alcatraz S. in his prior starts.
The chestnut has also placed in five stakes, including the Baldwin S. (G3), and
now boasts a 14-5-4-1, $320,230 record.

The Kentucky-bred Sky Cape is out of the unraced Skyscape (Marquetry), who
has also produced a 2008 colt by Sky Mesa.
