DBS October Sale kicks off

Last updated: 10/19/08 6:58 PM

Doncaster Bloodstock Sales will begin its three-day October Sale Monday, with the
opening day devoted to yearlings before the horses-in-training sessions get underway.

Borderlescott (Compton Place), who graces the cover of the catalog, provided this
auction with another high-profile story this year when taking the Nunthorpe S.
(Eng-G1) to provide
a dramatic return
on the 13,000 guineas paid by connections in 2003. Third in last month’s Prix
de l’Abbaye de
Longchamp (Fr-G1), he was a place behind another Doncaster October graduate in Moorhouse
Lad (Bertolini), who had earlier won the World Trophy (Eng-G3) at Newbury.

Past
graduates include Dewhurst S. (Eng-G1) and Frank E Kilroe Mile H. (G1) hero Milk it Mick (GB) (Millkom
[GB]) and
other Group 2-winning speedsters Electric Beat (Shinko Forest) and Sierra Vista
(Atraf [GB]).

Among the sires represented in the 284-strong yearling sale are Acclamation,
Bahamian Bounty, Compton Place, Elusive City, Exceed and Excel,
Indian
Haven, Invincible Spirit, Kheleyf, Kyllachy, Royal Applause (GB)
and Verglas
(Ire).

Hip No. 107 is a highlight in the catalog as a full sister to the stakes-placed Carnival
Queen (GB) (Carnival
Dancer) from the consignment of Mill House Stud. Of the horses in training
to sell on
Tuesday and Wednesday, there are drafts from His Highness The Aga Khan, Andrew
Balding,
Mick Channon, Darley, Richard Hannon, Barry Hills, Mark Johnston, Brian Meehan,
Jeremy
Noseda, John Oxx, Rabbah Bloodstock, Shadwell and Marcus Tregoning among the 496
lots on
offer in the auction which saw Grade 1 winner Ashkal Way (Ire) (Ashkalani) sell for a
mere 20,000
guineas four years ago.

“The yearlings
have been a
consistent source of classy yet value-for-money winners and we are confident
that this trend will continue, whilst DBS Horses in Training have sold extremely
well in 2008,” DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby said.
